Directions
Directions
  • Weigh your dog and select the pack that closely matches its weight.
  • Interceptor Plus should be administered orally once every month, preferably on the same date.
  • Instead of swallowing without chewing, you should encourage the dog to chew the tablet.
  • In case the dog does not take it whole, you may hide it in their food. Watch your dog closely to ensure it takes the entire dose. If you suspect that a part of the dose is missed, give a full recommended dose immediately.
  • For heartworm disease prevention, administer the first dose within one month of the dog's first exposure to mosquitoes and once every month thereafter until at least 6 months after the last seasonal exposure.
  • For intestinal worm control, administer it monthly. The minimum recommended treatment for puppies is at 2, 4, 8 and 12 weeks of age. You should treat pregnant dogs at mating and then once every month. Treat before whelping, too.
  • When switching from another heartworm preventive product containing Diethyl-carbamazine citrate to Interceptor Plus, administer the first dose within 30 days after the last dose of the previous preventive.
  • If you miss a dose, administer one dose immediately and resume the regular dosing schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Interceptor Plus?

Interceptor Plus (Interceptor Spectrum) is a broad-spectrum wormer for dogs. Formulated in a real chicken-flavored chew, it protects from heartworm disease and all four common intestinal worms that can infect dogs.

How does this multi-worm treatment work?

This worm treatment for dogs contains milbemycin oxime and praziquantel. After administration, it works systemically to protect against internal parasites. Milbemycin oxime prevents heartworm disease by eliminating the tissue stage of heartworm larvae acquired from mosquitoes within the past month. It also helps treat and control roundworm, hookworm and whipworm infections. Praziquantel targets tapeworms.

What is the difference between Interceptor Plus (Interceptor Spectrum) and Interceptor Flavor Tabs?

Interceptor Plus (Interceptor Spectrum) contains milbemycin oxime and praziquantel. It protects dogs from heartworm disease, roundworms, hookworms, whipworms and tapeworms. On the other hand, Interceptor Flavor Tablet uses milbemycin oxime as its active ingredient. It protects from heartworm disease, hookworms, roundworms and whipworms.

How early can I begin treating my dog with Interceptor Plus?

You can begin treating your puppy with Interceptor Plus from two weeks of age with any body weight.

Can I give this treatment with food?

For dogs that do not take the chew directly from your hand, you can hide the tablet in their food, ensuring the dog takes the complete dose.

How frequently should I treat my puppy?

Puppies should be treated at the ages of 2, 4, 8 and 12 weeks. Consult a veterinarian for tailored dosing recommendations.

Is this broad-spectrum wormer safe for dogs?

According to the manufacturer, when administered as directed on the label, Interceptor Spectrum has been demonstrated to be safe in healthy dogs. It is approved for use in dogs and puppies 2 weeks of age and older.

What happens if I miss a dose of Interceptor Plus?

If you miss a dose, administer a dose immediately and resume the monthly schedule.

Is it necessary to test my dog for heartworms before beginning treatment with Interceptor Plus?

According to the product label, you should get your dog tested for existing heartworm infections. If the dog is infected, treat your dog to remove adult heartworms at the discretion of your veterinarian.

How do I switch my dog to this all-wormer from the previous heartworm preventive?

When you are replacing your dog's heartworm preventive containing DEC (Diethylcarbamazine citrate) with Interceptor Plus, administer the first dose of this treatment within 30 days of your dog's previous preventive. For any other heartworm preventive, continue with the monthly dosing schedule.
